Alba Valencia Fernandez is a 41 year old mother of David (4) and Steven (12) . She was diagnosed with an aggressive Gastric Cancer in June
Auckland
Alba is running against the clock. She needs to complete chemotherapy treatment urgently to have a chance to save her life.
Alba is originally from Colombia. She is separated and does not have family support in New Zealand. Due to her work visa under the category of Domestic Violence, her treatment cannot be subsidised.
“Eight cycles of Xelox costing approximately NZD $30,000 or more” As stated in a quotation provided by Canopy Cancer Care, Mercy Hospital.
The cost of the first Cycle which has been paid was NZD$ 4,050. (Please see this receipt in the attachments).
Alba has been receiving support from friends; the Snell’s Beach Community and a few reputable Non for Profit Organizations in Auckland. They generously have helped her to fund-raise some resources that have allowed her to commence the treatment. However, this has covered only the first of 8 chemotherapy cycles.
We have run out of options and now all depends on the generosity of people…..
I am involved because I am a Social Worker and I got to know about Alba’s situation through my volunteer work in one of the Non for Profit Organizations that have been supporting Alba.
