Khan and Kai need to go to a home where they will be looked after for the rest of their lives.
Marlborough
Khan is a Kaimanawa cross horse. He lives on Arapaoa Island with his mother Kai, who is a full Kaimanawa. His dad is a miniature horse that used to live on the island (I know, I'm not sure how that happened!). He is a rotund little horse that loves his food.
Since Khan was born on the island all the other horses except his mother have been taken away. His mother Kai is now 32. Originally we thought she wouldn't go on for much longer, but since my last visit on 7 December 2020 she is looking much healthier.
Unfortunately Khan and Kai's owners aren't very involved. While I'm not their owner I've tried to look after them, and have been organising farrier appointments to treat their overgrown hooves. The photo above is before the farrier treated their hooves. The video above is after.
Khan and Kai should go to a loving home that can look after their needs.
While I don't own Khan I try to look after him and his mother, I'm trying to ensure they are looked after for the rest of their lives.
Renting a horse trailer and a barge to and from Arapaoa Island to a sanctuary. I think $2,500 will be needed. If enough funds aren't raised they will be donated to a horse charity that rescues/rehabilitates horses.
