We are just a family with huge hearts who have gone through an unbelievable amount of hardship to save our beloved dog.

Hi all,
This page has been set up for all the generous souls who wish to support us on our journey to save our beloved family pet and fur baby of 10 1/2 yrs.
Our beautiful black lab "Ninja" took an unexpected turn on Friday and appeared to be super unwell. We first suspected (being a typical lab) that he might have eaten some grapes found on our grapevine which is highly toxic to dogs, however on closer examination by the emergency vets they discovered a ruptured mass on his spleen which was causing him to slowly bleed internally to death.
Heart broken by this news, hubby and I prepared to say our goodbyes - unbeknown to our two little girls who were expecting their best bud to return home alive and well the next day. However, once we got to the vets we were told the prognosis could be different if they were to operate immediately and remove the mass to stop the haemmorging.
We were looking at a potential cost of between $3000-$4000 for the surgery to remove his spleen, but it felt too cruel to choose to put him down when he otherwise appeared to be a healthy happy dog. It was the hardest decision of our life, but if money wasnt an issue there'd be no chance of putting him down. We opted to try save him and the surgery went well with the mass being sent away for testing to see if it's cancerous. His life expectation is only a few weeks to months if it is, however we would rather do all we could to save him and cherish the time we have than to cut his life short. There's also a chance it is not malignant and we have even more years with him which is what we are praying for.
Currently, Ninja is still under observation at the vets for his recovery. The bill has already surpassed $4k and is growing. We wouldn't have needed to set up this page if it hadn't been for the number of tragic hits we've taken in the last 6months. We lost my mum to cancer within weeks of her diagnosis and more recently received the devastating news that our 6yr old has been diagnosed with an ultra rare degenerative disease called mucolipidosis type 3, requiring me to cut back my part-time work hours. Most of our savings went towards attending an international conference for lysosomal storage diseases and to book a family trip towards the end of the year to honour the wishes of our late mum/Nanny. The rest has all gone towards these vet bills.
Any amount of donation towards us being able to save our dog will be appreciated more than you'll ever know. He means the world to our family especially to our girls. He brings them an immense amount of joy and life isn't the same without him around..we hope to bring him home soon!
Thanks for the love and support,
The Jack family xx
Every cent will go towards paying off these vet bills!
Ninja is on the mend! 14 March 2019
Hey everyone,
We just wanted to let you all know that today Ninja has had all his stitches and staples removed and is now fully on the mend! The vets are really happy with his recovery since the surgery and unforeseen accident, we are overjoyed that he appears to have bounced back 100%!!
Despite his cancer prognosis he appears to be back to his typical lab self and we are beyond relief to have our loving big pup back :)
Words can't describe how much your generosity and support means to us. It has been the hardest time of our lives recently and to have this extra chance with our beloved dog means the world to us and our girls.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
All our love,
The Jack family xx
