Sexual Assault Support

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this. My name is Lia Burnan, and the victim is my little sister, only 22 years old.

On the early hours on Sunday morning my sister was severely raped and brutally assualted by someone she had only just met the Saturday night, a friend that one of her friends knew.

Her injuries to a specific area were so bad that a large hematoma was formed and you can only imagine what this body part looked like. She has had to have a total of 2 surgery’s to get the swelling and blood clots down and out and has been in hospital since Sunday morning 5am.

She hasn’t been able to know when she is going to the toilet, walk or sit down. She has scratches all over her back and bruises covering her legs and pelvic region aswell.

We have a long road of recovery ahead for my sister and my family and unfortunately because of how bad her injuries are she has been deemed unfit for work untill further notice.

My mum has been staying at the hospital taken time off work and the parking alone is costing $40 a day.

The money raised will go towards this, food, utility bills, and accomodation while my sister can’t work, and may also be used for solicitor or lawyer for advice on how to prosecute.

I, from NZ had to fly over to Australia onto the next flight on Sunday night leaving my husband and 1 year old daughter behind for 4 days to be by her side. And you can imagine how much this has cost and has taken a toll on the family. Unfortunately I can’t be there by her side for long in person.

I just want to say thank you for taking the time to read and am asking (and I hate asking) that if there is any chance anyone has anything they can give to help my sister and the family it would be greatly appreciated.
