Fundraiser in support of Youth Nelson Manager Maree Shalders and the Nelson Cancer Society while Maree undergoes chemotherapy in 2021.

Youth Nelson and Kath Bee with support from The Local Barbershop and Chop City are fundraising for Youth Nelson and the Nelson Cancer Society.
20 year Manager Maree Shalders has recently been diagnosed with cancer. In her typical humble and unselfish manner she wants to just get on with the job. However to show their support Youth Nelson Staff, Students and Friends want to get behind her by shaving for a cure!
This idea came from local icon Kath Bee who worked at Youth Nelson from 2004-2006 and has remained a close friend of Maree's. The beauty of Youth Nelson is the relationships the program fosters for the benefits of its young people and their whanau.
Maree has touched the lives of hundreds of young people and their families over the years. To the point that the children of her first students are now attending the program. Youth Nelson provides a 2nd opportunity at education for the young people in our region who aren't successful in mainstream education.
We would love to see past students, professional contacts, friends, whanau and supporters to be present or even join in the shave.
About us
Youth Nelson is an Alternative Education center for students aged 13-16 in Nelson who have not been successful in mainstream education. The program offers education for 2nd chance learners that addresses pastoral issues while following the NZ curriculum
Use of funds
Kath Bee has put a price on her head at $5000. This money shared with The Nelson Cancer Society and Youth Nelson. Youth Nelson will use their share to cover costs while Maree is away.

Well the day has arrived and the locks have been shed.
Thanks to Kath, Mary-lyn and Rohan for joining Dan and Jonny at Youth Nelson.
