Continuing the work of shelter building in Nepal

Auckland

Namaste. Hi I am Steve Trevella and I am fundraising to continue shelter building in Nepal under the name of Shelters 4 Nepal 2.0 (formed together with other volunteers). I recently returned from Nepal where we decided to build temporary shelters with money we had raised through donations. We did not go as part of an organised group - we just decided to raise money and go and help. That simple. We originally were going to help the people of Changunarayan but after visiting a nearby town (Sankhu) that we had heard was badly hit from the two quakes, we decided to pool our money and build what shelters we could with the funds we had for people there. Sankhu was in a total mess. It was incredible to think it was three months after the quake - and what the town would have been like! We managed to build 10 shelters in total. Working around power outages and the other challenges of being in Nepal was incredible, but we managed to help 10 groups of people. This was a mere drop of water in the bucket, as we had heard there was approx 1000 people in Sankhu still without adequate shelter. We have since up-graded the building plans, but at the time just needed to get them done as quickly as possible as we only had 2.5 weeks in Nepal. We witnessed people sleeping out in pubic spaces, some in tents, some in bits of corrugated iron tacked together randomly. With monsoon rains bucketing down daily, and winter approaching we knew after we left Nepal that we had to find a way to continue helping people. "Shelters 4 Nepal 2.0" was formed by us and the volunteers that had helped us every day that we were in Nepal. The other volunteers are still continuing on this amazing work and are building houses with money fundraised from NZ since leaving Nepal. These volunteers are working so hard and are doing an incredible job from where we left off. We anticipate volunteers will come and go from our base in Nepal, but "the ball will continue to be passed" to keep the Shelters 4 Nepal 2.0 work going. Shelters 4 Nepal 2.0 will raise funds, provide plans, and continue to provide assistance in the form of project management both from New Zealand and on the ground in Nepal. We need to keep this going! People need help. The Nepali are trying to help themselves but are limited in tools and funds. It is desperate for many many people! International aid groups have pretty much pulled out and some are even wanting their tents back! So where do these people go? What can YOU do to help? Each shelter costs around $550 NZD. What better thing could be done than to provide a family with a safe dry shelter for the next few years; WOW! How good would that be?! You may be an organisation, a business, a workplace, a family or an individual that builds a shelter for people in need. Get together with family and work mates and pool funds to buy materials that will build a shelter to keep people warm and dry through the rest of the monsoon and into the coming winter. All funds given are controlled by myself and are used ONLY for buying the materials needed. 100% of your donation goes directly to where it is needed! NO - we are not a registered charity; so not tax deductible (that would mean money going to accountants and agencies). We are about getting things done because it is the right thing to do. So come on board; sponsor a shelter if you can but any amount would be fantastic. As well as knowing what a great thing it is you are doing, I will send you a photo of the family and the shelter you provided for them. How awesome is that?!

Thanks for your interest - cheers
