Another shot here. About a couple of hours after this and we'd basically cleared all the lines ready for the fence.

Today we cleared a lot of thorn bushes, stumps and old wire which was in the way for the next section. Took most of the day and had the tractor from the local NGO working for quite a few hours plus the guys on the ground helping out. Progress.

Hi everyone. The first section of 50 meters is getting up there which is great. As you can see however the intermediate steel and concrete pillars still need to be put in plus wire on top etc. Then there is still another 150 meters roughly to go and a lot of other costs like the steel work in the pillars and multiple gates. At least one gate will have to be big enough for trucks so none of this job is really small scale. The young guys are doing a great job so far while I've been in Freetown and our Pastor and School Manager is really making this job a number one priority. Check out the pics and please consider helping.

I have been very busy working in Freetown recently but the young men from the church and community have begun working on the fence already. They have the foundation down and a couple of rows of blocks in already. They did a great job on the line and it's looking really good. They started on the most difficult side where the other buildings have been close to encroaching on the church property. This stretch is about 50 odd metres. It was a rainy day today but I managed to snap a few photos of the foundation and some of the blocks ready to be laid. As more blocks are produced inside and the levels go up I'll be sure to load some more photos. Note that the pillars will be put in at a later stage. Also there will be a small influx of funds going through the givealittle page soon too so expect to see some good progress.

Cement stacked inside ready to make the first batch of blocks. Won't be a lot but its a start. Notice there is only 5 bags instead of 6 as I first thought.

In this photo you can see me standing outside at the mission next to the pile of sand. That trip of sand used to be 90,000 Le but I think it's gone up a bit. Pastor knows. He got everything while I was at work.

  • Mission Project Progress.

      24 April 2017

Hello everyone. Thanks for the support already given. Every amount is much appreciated. Last month $85 New Zealand dollars was given which is about 400,000 Le here in Sierra Leone after the ATM transaction fee is taken out. I will be withdrawing this amount via ATM card and delivering this to the mission where we can expect to see approximately 6 bags of cement and a trip of sand turning up shortly afterwards. We'll be beating our own blocks and so over the next week or two I'll take a photo and post it here for you all to see. Its a good start and we trust things will take off a bit more soon as we are able to draw attention to the cause through Facebook, email and through our friends and family. With regards to drawing some attention to the cause I sent out an email to friends and family earlier and I mentioned something in the email that I should have mentioned on the page when I first set it up so as part of this update I've copy and pasted my comment from the email. See below. "The reason for the fence is obviously security as it's always tested here in Sierra Leone but also something I didn't mention on the page is that some of the neighbors are often inclined to attempt to build structures and encroach on each others land (quite common here), so with a fence in place it will not only stop intruders and thieves whilst creating a safer environment for students and staff but it will help to keep the church land secure from mostly Muslim neighbors looking to squeeze onto land that isn't theirs".

Check here for an update next week! Regards.
