Kia ora Aotearoa, we your extended whanau from Waiheke Island need your help to protect our fragile marine space.
Auckland
We’ve been in a battle to protect our precious environment and island from a mammoth of a marina development spread over 7.2 hectares with 186 berths and a floating car park.
Our supporters have gathered signatures from a large majority of our island community that state we do not want this marina. We have protested, been to the Environment and High courts, visited parliament, held fundraising concerts and are now back to the High Court on June 2.
And still this marina is being pushed upon us by people who do not call our island home.
We have felt that all is lost many times over, only to be shown glimmers of hope and new pathways through to continue our journey to protect what matters to us all collectively. This is happening throughout Aotearoa; that which is sacred to us is diminishing and we must all work together if we are to stop it.
We can not give up. Our much depleted Hauraki Gulf must be protected from sea sprawl and pollution. We do not need or want this marina.
The case is now on appeal before the High Court and SKP feels that we have a good chance to have the matter reheard and to try and stop the marina from destroying the Wiaheke Island way of life and environment. Our immediate fundraising goal is $25,000 to help support this important battle. Help us reach our fundraising goals by donating to this important cause.
We are one people and one voice and it’s time to stand together in our mana and speak up for how we want our country and its precious waters cared for - for our generations to come.
We are merely kaitiaki - we are caretakers. The ocean and land is owned by no-one.
We will utilise these funds to pay for our costs for our Appeal in the High Court in June.
