South Island Skydivers - Canopy Piloting Swoop Raft/Landing Mat

$2,845 of $12,000 goal
Given by 21 generous donors in 8 weeks

We are raising funds to purchase a floating landing platform for New Zealand based swoopers to train over NZ.

Nationwide

The biggest skydiving Canopy Piloting competition in the world is called Swoop Freestyle. Just like motocross or snowboarding and skiing freestyle, this comp involves performing tricks but we fly our high performances canopies really fast to the ground at the same time.

Now a multi-country event, it started in Copenhagen as an invitational to 20 of the World's best Canopy Pilots, 3 of whom were Kiwis!! All 3 Kiwis made it in the top 10!! Just imagine if we had one of these Landing Platforms to train with here in New Zealand!

Having a Landing Platform here in the South Island would allow High Performance Canopy pilots who want to train for international competitions like Swoop Challenge to set up Swoop courses around the South Island and have at it! The landing platform would be based at Skydiving Kiwis. It would be available for all swoopers to use and our Sports Development team wants to get behind organising swoop events. The new generation of up and comers would have every opportunity to utilise this landing platform for training and for running small NZ Events on local Lakes or Bodies of Water and showcase this under exposed Sport here in New Zealand.

Swoop Freestyle have indicated to Lee that they would be interested in having a New Zealand stop on their World Tour if conditions align and through Skydiving Kiwis, we would love to be able to help to make this happen. The costs of getting a landing pad are high, so I thought we'd put it out to our community for support.

Our aim would be to host 6 training camps a year and one competition first off, leading into national competitions at our major cities and/or tourist hotspots.

Let's have it!

Lee Barraclough's involvement (page creator)

I am a New Zealand based skydiver and high performance canopy pilot. I have competed for NZ for 8 years now. I would like to see Kiwi pilots have access to the same training tools as Europe and America. Another goal is to orgnise swooping events in NZ.

Use of funds

The funds will be used to purchase directly from a Chinese based supplier, one floating Landing Platform, strengthened, 30m x 6m, electric pump and underwater tie downs along with 6-10 Floating Bollards to use as course markers if surplus funds allow.
