Solo working mother ICU after contracting Legionnaires disease

Update time folks. So Jillian is spending some time being less sedated which is amazing. Shes had a set back from contracting a separate infection in her lungs which is being treated with antibiotics. She has had a tracheotomy to make things easier with breathing tubes etc.

She is still extremely weak (although incredibly strong at the same time). All we can do it take it day by day (a saying I seem to have on repeat lately!) but we are so grateful to see her making a recovery, however slowly it may be. Thank you again for all your support.

    Update time :)

Jillian is still in an induced coma currently, but is healing a bit more everyday. The doctors are now talking about waiting until she can breathe 100% on her own, then rousing her from the coma and removing the breathing tubes. She's a fighter for sure, and Cade has been amazingly resilient and is back at school. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers x

Hi Susan, thank you for your comment. Jillian has had one of those in the past few days, its just the infection that has set her back a bit. I hope you've made a full recovery in your circumstances!

I am way better than they told me I would be, I am still in recovery and have minor glitches but considering i was nearly not here I have done well and your Jillian will do to. Just takes a wee bit of stubbornness and the help of lots of friends.

Hi guys, wow things have really taken off on here, its completely and utterly amazing!

Todays update contains both good and not so good news. The good news is Jillian is now back down in Christchurch! She is still in ICU but is off the ECMO machine which is a postive.

She is still in critical condition and on the breathing machine. The Drs have told us today that she will be in ICU for at least the next 3 weeks, then another 8 weeks or so in hospital. After that it could take up to 3 years for her to recover. They still dont know the extent of the long term damage to her body so once again its wait and see.

We cant thank you all enough for all your kind thoughts and support. Its times like these you realise all that you ate grateful for.

    Hi All,

Still no news unfortunately, Jillian remains in the same state. Its hard to describe the helplessness and frustration the family are feeling at the moment. Everybodies support has been amazing, strength in numbers is critical. Please keep Jillian and Cade in your thoughts and prayers xx

    Hi guys,

On behalf of the family I just want to say how overwhelmed we are with the outpouring of support from people all over the country. It means the world.

Jillian has remained very much the same since arriving in Auckland, still in critical condition. The Drs have said that they would hope to see some improvement after about 5 days on the ECMO machine and we all remain hopeful that this will be the case.

We will update you on any changes in Jillian's condition as we get them. Thank you again for all your support.
