Spencer Park Surf Life Saving Club is about to start the rebuild our community surf lifesaving facility and we really need your help.
Canterbury
Our current clubhouse has long been in need of replacement, and the growth of our community further validates the need for us to create a new built-for-purpose space for delivering surf lifesaving patrol services to the public, surf sports programmes to our members and beach education programmes to our local schools. This new facility will also provide further community engagement and recreational opportunities for youth and families in our community.
Our local community suffered extensive damage to homes and facilities through the 2010/11 earthquakes and is now in the rebuild phase. The community has taken a collaborative approach and the new surf lifesaving clubhouse will form a key component to ensure the community have its own space for functions and activities, and will also cater for other recreational groups.
We have been fortunate to have the enormous support from a number of organisations including the Christchurch City Council. We are near our target, but still require additional funding to reach our goal. We are now seeking your help so that we can begin construction, and ensure this project will get completed.
It is clear that we cannot achieve this vision for our community alone. Our city is being rebuilt over the next 20 years, and as a result funding support is becoming increasingly difficult to access. Your assistance now will ensure that this project goes ahead.
Please visit our website for more information on our Club and the new clubhouse facility, www.spencerpark.co.nz. (Click on the Clubhouse page for specific details on the rebuild project).
We are targeting to commence construction in June 2016 and we hope that you can share this journey with us.
I'm involved because this new facility is important to our community and for the future generations. Water safety is vital in New Zealand, and this is an opportunity to really embrace what community is all about.
The Spencer Park Surf Life Saving Club prides itself as a friendly, family orientated community volunteer organisation. Spencer Park Surf Life Saving Club is located on the beach amongst the popular recreational area of Spencer Park and Bottle Lake Forrest only 15-20 minutes drive from central Christchurch and is easily accessible by main road via the community of Spencerville. The clubhouse is adjacent to the Spencer Beach Holiday Park and picnic areas.
Spencer Park SLSC prides itself on providing highly skilled Surf Lifeguards who patrol the beach for the safety of the public. We also provide junior development for 7-13 years and senior surf sports programmes competing in many local and national surf life saving sport events. Surf sports offers many sporting opportunities and further enhances the skills required to be effective Surf Lifeguards.
