Helping Reid to walk with the support of intensive ongoing therapy and surgery.
Auckland
Reid is a 3 year old little boy with Cerebral palsy.
Reids CP affects his legs causing very tight muscles and therefore his ability to move and walk normally. Reid cannot currently walk unassisted and has a lot of therapy to maintain and strengthen his muscles.
Public funding for this level of therapy is VERY limited. It is up to the family to make sure Reid gets as much support in this area as possible and this includes asking for your generosity to help fund this.
Reids family also hope to get Reid to St Louis children's hospital in the USA for life changing SDR surgery which will remove the tightness permanently and enable Reid to have a better chance at normal movement in his life. This includes intensive rehab therapy after the surgery.
Family of child with special needs. Raising funds for therapy and surgery.
Goal: To raise $150,000
Wish list:
• Hydrotherapy pool
• Blocks of intensive physical therapy (2-3 week blocks every 6 months)
• Physiotherapy and Chiropractor sessions
• SDR Surgery
Our givealittle is almost closed - Thank you 8 February 2019
Our Givealittle page will be closing next week.
Thank you so much to everyone who as very kindly donated towards Reid for surgery and therapy.
With your help we have been able to book into an intensive therapy course at the NAPA centre which we are travelling to on the 15th Feb. We have also managed to secure a spot with the Walk this Way team from the UK when they are here in New Zealand in May.
We have raised around $25,000 so far which has been a gigantic help in accessing therapy for Reid. We have a few avenues we are currently pursuing for further funding along with many amazing people helping us with fundraising events.
Reid has been accepted for SDR at St Louis and we are on the cancellation list for this year, so if we get a call with a spot we can go – IF we have the money, which currently we are about $50,000 off being able to get there and have the surgery done.
Reid has now turned 4 and has made a lot of progress over the last few months with the warmer weather enabling us to get out and about more, our lovely neighbors let us use their pool so Reid is having lots of hydrotherapy and gaining so much confidence in the water – even kicking by himself pushing a floaty which definitely gives him a sense of independence.
So as we come to the end of our givealittle cause we will still be fundraising elsewhere and hopefully we will get to our goal so Reid can have the opportunity to have more normal movement in the future.
We have our website going www.stepsforreid.co.nz if you would like to donate or get in contact. We also have our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/StepsforReid to keep you updated on progress.
We genuinely thank you from a place in our hearts for what you have helped us achieve.
The Lovetts.
