We need to stop the planned Wellington Airport expansion in a climate emergency.
Wellington
The Guardians of the Bays are fighting to stop a $1B expansion (and doubling of passenger numbers) of Wellington Airport in a climate emergency. We are a non-profit group of local volunteers trying to stop the airport putting shareholder wealth ahead of the well-being of future generations and the local community.
We are taking Wellington Airport to the Environment Court. That's a complex legal process and it's expensive. The airport can throw lawyers and expert witnesses at this. We rely on donations to fund our Environment Court case costs.
The Environment Court case starts on the 7th November and is scheduled to last three weeks. Every dollar we raise will be spent on the court case.
We know times are hard but we'd really appreciate a small donation to help us stop the airport doubling passenger numbers and preventing Wellington from achieving net zero targets.
The ultimate reason for doing this is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from aircraft flights. So we've calculated how much carbon your donation would offset based on our national carriers approach e.g. $20 is the cost to offset a return flight from Wellington to Fiji.
Every single dollar raised will be spent on the Environment Court case. If we don't raise enough to cover all the costs our volunteers will fight the case without lawyers and expert witnesses. So every dollar will help.
Wow. Thank-you for your support Karl.
