Stormi is a Black and Tan Miniature Smooth Dachshund who has been diagnosed with PDA or Patent Ductus Arteriosus which she was born with when one of her heart valves did not close correctly upon birth and needs life a changing operation to shut the shunt down in her heart so her blood can flow normally. Her heart races very fast and can clearly be felt when you place your hand on her chest.
She needs open heart surgery and this is performed between 4 and 5 months old. Stormi is scheduled to have this surgery performed on or about 20 August 2018 at Vet Services Hospital in Auckland.
We had three choices for Stormi.
First was to surrender her back to her breeder to an unknown future, this is not an option.
Second was to leave her condition and she may lead a normal life for a few short years then she will require medical intervention for congestive heart failure.
Third and only option for us is to take Stormi into our Dachshund family and give her the operation to repair the heart valve fault and give her a happy normal life that she deserves. Dogs that have this surgery lead a normal life.
Stormi is doing everything a puppy should be doing, she has an appetite, gaining weight, playing and loving life everyday with her sausage dog family.
The cost of this surgery is estimated between $5.000 and $6.000 and we will find the money to give her the life she deserves.
Use of funds
The cost of this operation is estimated between $5000 and $6000 for open heart surgery. Any excess raised would be donated to another dog waiting for medical treatment, Chemo or life changing surgery on Pets Give a little Page.
