Story Books For healing harm

We are seeking funding to create two illustrated story books for children/young people who experience harm. Often children and young people Jtd Solutions work with are in care and have experienced violence, family harm and drug and alcohol abuse. As you can imagine a child who experiences this type of abuse and then is also placed into care is very traumatising for them

As a consequence of this trauma the child can act out their emotions in aggressive and violent ways themselves or internalise their emotions and engage in self-harming and suicidal behaviours.

A tool that can help heal the emotional harm that these children and young people experience is through the creation of illustrated story books. These books allow children and young people an opportunity to tell their story of their experiences through their own words and pictures and also their hopes and dreams for a better life.

Once their story book has been completed the child or young person is invited to share their story with their family and other important people in their lives. This enables reflections and a healing process to occur within the family as well. The story book is also be presented to the child or young person to keep for ever.
