Acts of Kindness that enable life-supporting communities within NZ to localise their own suicide prevention trainings, trainers & helpers.

Waikato

Life-Supporting Communities NZ Trust has been set up as a charitable arm of A-OK.NZ to help local regions set up their own life-supporting communities to own their own regional suicide prevention approach and strategy.

A-OK.NZ stands for Acts of Kindness that enable life-supporting communities.

A-OK.NZ is not funded to run these workshops. We stretch our profit margins across communities to ensure people who cannot afford attend these trainings.

The team at A-OK.NZ have been a provider of suicide prevention training across NZ for the past 14 years. In 2020, it became apparent that the solutions we talk about so much sit within the local region and community. As we travel around country, delivering suicide prevention, we realise the value of the community to lead suicide prevention training, up skill their own helpers, manage and support their own helpers and create

A-OK.NZ recently set up a Charitable Trust - Life-supporting Communities NZ Trust, to be able to - enable life-supporting communities across NZ to be pick up this mantle and lead their own communities within their own workplaces to run these trainings.

A region is a geographical location such as Tairāwhiti, Hawkes Bay, Waikato, Northland, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Wairarapa, Wellington, Marlborough, Tasman, West Coast, Canterbury and Southland.

A community is a segmented group within that region such as workplaces, schools, sports teams, health / mental workforce, churches etc.

It is important that these regional communities are enabled to

1. Create their own steering group of people who are experts to guide and navigate the groups of their life-supporting community.

2. Adapt the training to their regional / community needs

3. Local trainers who understand the people in who they will be serving through these programmes

4. Offer continual support and development for their helpers

5. Connect their helpers to the local support services as another option of help

6. Be able to connect with other regions nationally to share their learnings to help and improve their services / outcomes.

Your donations for this page will go Waikato life-supporting communities.

What we find is most regions, most communities want to do this but they often do not know where to start or what to do. As an organisation that has learnt so much about suicide prevention over the past 14 years, we believe the next step is to enable localised suicide prevention training, trainers and helpers.

Please help us to do this.
