Support Ang's new heart.

Help those who help themselves. So close and yet not there, just a little more.

Otago

Isn't our medical system amazing! Ang has a new heart and she is making fantastic progress in her recovery. The catch is though, that whilst a lot is done to support Ang with medical expenses, very little is given to the required support providers and their families. In this case that is James, her dedicated and very devoted husband and his 3 children, 14, 10 & 10.

A confirmed impediment to recuperation is stress. Please find it in your heart to contribute something to this incredibly self sufficient, generous and resilient little family who battle on to give Ang a life, but miss out on anything other than the bare necessities.

James lost his job at about the time that Covid hit, any savings they had were used to keep them going before Ang got her call in November to receive her new heart. James cannot work as he is Ang's primary care giver and whilst he does receive a benefit for that, the costs are huge: currently up to $500 every 3 weeks.

James has to accompany Ang to her many medical appointments. They are lucky that blood testing can be done in Oamaru. Currently a routine trip to Auckland is required every 20 days. If there is a challenge between times that cannot be dealt with in Oamaru, then it is off to Dunedin or even Auckland, in addition to routine trips.

Apart from travel and accommodation expenses for James, child care for the 3 children, is a cost. So that schooling can continue uninterrupted, that means live in care.

Givealittle today and lift your heart and that of the McKenzie family.

Helen Jansen's involvement (page creator)

Ang is dedicated to service to others in the circles of her life and the community. I have watched her courageous tenacity for living and her family's devotion to her survival. As a friend it's time to share the load of support others have already started.

Use of funds

The funds will be used to cover travel and accommodation expenses for James and assistance with childcare for the children whilst he and Ang are away.

Any extra funds will be held to support any unexpected medical event that Ang may have.

Thank you all, very much.  8 April 2022

The donations that you have so generously provided throughout this year have lifted some of the load, particularly from James's shoulders as they carry the costs of providing the support person for Ang when she travels to Auckland for appointments.

She has made a very good recovery from her heart transplant. She has though, had a setback as the biopsy in November damaged one of the valves in her heart and she has to go back for more open heart surgery in the future.

In the meantime she has been able to join in across all areas of her life and be an active parent, a devoted friend and dutiful daughter and sister. Here is a photo of her, centre, with her sister and father.
