Help towards costs for what will potentially be a long road to recovery and rehab for Arlen
Northland
Arlen is currently fighting for his life following a tragic accident whilst he was cycling to his work in the early hours of Wednesday 31st March. His family have been traveling up and down from Whangarei (and beyond) daily, to be by his side while he recovers in Auckland City Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
This is a family's worst nightmare and I would like to raise funds to support Arlen (and his family) during this hardest fight of their lives. Arlen is well-loved by so many and would be the first to move mountains to help anyone else, so every little bit counts.
Donations will be transferred to a separate account which has been set up for Arlen specifically with Westpac. If anyone would like the details instead, please get in touch.
**Update** I'd just like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for donating, sharing this page and helping me do this (I acknowledge and thank others who also had the same idea this is on your behalf as well). I'm BLOWN AWAY by all your kindness and Arlen's folks think you are all bloody amazing!! All your kind messages are being passed on :)
I am one of the emergency responders to Arlen's accident. His grandad Jeff is our crewmate but I want to support Arlen and both of his families. This page has been set up with permission from both the D'Ath and Newton whanau.
Funds will be decided in consultation between the D'Ath and Newton whanau and used to help pay for treatment and whatever Arlen needs to get better whilst he is in hospital and beyond.
A huge thank you to you all 22 April 2021
Kia ora whaanau, friends and everyone who has come here to support Arlen. This is his Aunty Gina sending this update. We wanted to let you all know that Arlen has moved out of Critical Care (yahhoooooooo), we are so relieved that he has made it through the first stage of his healing journey, and he is now in a Neurological Ward to continue to heal his serious injuries, including more surgery on his bones and continuing to deal with some stubborn infections. He is awake more often, however will need a lot of time and rehabilitation to support him in recovering from the serious head injury he has suffered and while they still try to get the pain under control from his injuries. We have gained some wonderful hopeful stories from others and feel positive that with time, and patience our boy will continue to progress as well as he has. He is still not able to cope with visitors, and it's just his close whaanau members who are able to take your messages of love and support in to him, this is to prevent over-stimulation, which happens very easily with head injury patients. Please understand that this is for Arlens best chance of rest and recovery. Again we thank you for your kindness and generosity, all of the money received has gone into an account for Arlen. It will only be used for him, as necessary to provide him with some comfort and also as something for him to look forward to in his recovery. Much aroha to you all from the D'Ath and Newton whaanau. xxx
