Please support Fin & Cam in competing at the US Ski & Snowboard Nationals & their journey towards representing NZ at the Olympics in 2026!
Otago
Fin & Cam Melville Ives are 13 year old twins from Wanaka, NZ who absolutely love the snow & snow sports! Fin is a freeskier and Cam is a snowboarder.
Last year they were selected for the Snow Sports NZ National Development Team. This team is working towards competing for NZ in World Cup events and eventually the Winter Olympics in 2026! As a stepping stone towards this goal, the team is heading to Colorado & Utah in January 2020 to compete in USASA (USA Snowboard & Freeski Association) Nationals and FIS (International Ski Federation) slopestyle and halfpipe events.
Fin & Cam are hoping to follow in the footsteps of their heroes, renowned NZ skiers and snowboarders such as Miguel & Nico Porteous, Zoi Sidowski-Synott, Finn Bilious and the Wells brothers.
As some of you may already know, last Northern Hemisphere winter, thanks to help from our amazing donors, we made a similar trip to the US to compete in the USASA Nationals. This was a super successful trip! With a lot of hard training, Fin & Cam were able to compete in a number of qualifying events and make it through to the finals at the Nationals. Fin won 1st place in Slopestyle and 2nd place in Halfpipe; Cam came 4th in Halfpipe and 6th in Slopestyle in the Under 14s division.
They then backed up these solid performances with a big season of training and competition in New Zealand. Turning 13 this year, the boys were able to register as FIS athletes in compete in higher level Australia-New Zealand Continental Cup events. Despite having to compete with some Olympic-level athletes they were able to hold their own and gain great experience and some solid results!
For the upcoming trip we are hoping to raise funds to pay for USASA & FIS memberships and entry fees into the events. Each qualifying event costs about NZ$100 with the US Nationals costing about NZ$500. A total of NZ$2500 is needed. Any extra funds raised would go towards travels costs.
With your support Fin & Cam can compete in the US and continue their journey towards representing NZ at the Winter Olympics in 2026!

Fin's US 2020 Season Highlights 19 April 2020
I was really excited to get back to Colorado and see my friends that I met last year.
During the season, I achieved three firsts in USASA comps. I also competed in a FIS Futures Tour halfpipe event and came 3rd.
My favourite part of the trip was when I traveled to Utah with the NZ team and stayed with them in Salt Lake City. It was the first time I had been away from my family for this length of time. I had lots of fun learning new tricks and progressing with my coach, Kerr, and my teammates.
We're back in Wanaka now. We can't get out on snow but we are keeping busy with our training, making goals for the future and doing school work.
