Nia’a Road to Recovery

Wellington

Many kind people have asked to donate or help so I thought I would create a space to do so.

My beautiful niece, Nia is not yet three and has had a terrible time in hospital the past few weeks. After being sent home twice diagnosed with a “gastro virus” and minimal tests done she was readmitted this week after a blood test and scan showed lots of pus in her puku. She was quickly then taken into surgery. She had a very nasty infection from right up at her liver/gall bladder right down to her right ovary and fallopian tubes. They had thought her body had encapsulated the collection of pus - as this was what they saw on the scan, but this turned out to be her ovary that had moved up and stuck to her bowel. The surgeon described it as "sticky and pusy". They have separated back out her liver, gall bladder and bowel as these were stuck together with pus. They managed to separate her bowel and her right ovary. There were a few collections of pus that they drained. They also have removed about 8cm of her colon. The surgeon described this piece like "rope", attached to this piece of the bowel was her appendix so this was removed too.

The recovery journey for our little girl is going to be long and her parents are going to face the financial burden that comes with a hospitalised child and no sick leave while supporting their wee girl. She is weak at the moment having been bedridden for weeks while a nasty bug attacked her body but she is strong. Her comeback will be mighty!

Send your love and keen Nia in your thoughts   5 August 2022

This Blossom went home on Monday after 3 weeks in hospital. But the happy event didn’t last long. Currently recovering from another major bowel surgery that happened last night. A long long road ahead for our poor girl. Expected recovery this time will be more than 6 weeks and she will require further surgery in the future. Such an unfortunate run of events that feels like she is back at square one, for such a tiny wee body it’s a lot but she is a fighter and she will get through. Thank you for all your offers of help and kindness shown at this time 🫶🏽
