Support Sanitary Products in NZ Schools (SPINZS)

$1,300 of $50,000 goal
Given by 21 generous donors in one year

SPINZS is a fund set up under Auckland Foundation to ensure girls from lower socio-economic backgrounds have access to sanitary products.

Auckland

The issue of period poverty is well-known, and yet there are still girls and young women skipping school and missing out on their education every month because their families simply can't afford to buy sanitary pads.

Chrissie Taylor and Soala Wilson, two passionate and community-minded business women, are making a difference to these girls through SPINZS (Sanitary Products in New Zealand Schools), a fund that has been set up under Auckland Foundation.

Soala says, "One time, I remember begging my mother for some money so I could buy some pads but I just had to make do with whatever I could find. This project is very personal for me; I felt ashamed and embarrassed, was 15 years old. I understand how these girls feel."

Through public donations, SPINZS purchases and distributes sanitary products to schools where this is known to be an issue. And your support can help SPINZS to make an even greater impact.

Chrissie and Soala have set themselves an ambitious target of $50,000 so they can meet the increasing need for their service. Every donation - big and small - counts, and will help them to purchase and distribute more sanitary products to more schools.

A donation of $100 would enable SPINZS to buy 224 tampons and 140 sanitary pads - meaning that for one month, 7 girls can continue to attend school during their period.

Every child has the right to an education that is not compromised by embarrassment or shame. SPINZS is working to ensure that ALL girls have the opportunity to attend school regularly - helping to break the cycle of disadvantage and inequality.
