Fundraising page for the Almond family to be financially supported during the recovery from Doug's stroke

Waiau Pa, Auckland

The Almond family are facing the unimaginable. We count our blessings that Doug is alive and medically stable following a stroke on the 22nd November. He has already begun his rehabilitation journey but it is a long and uncertain road ahead. You never know what life is going to throw at you, you can be fit and healthy like Doug, and this rare tragedy strikes and your life and those around you changes as you know it. Life for the Almond family has turned on its head and will likely never be the same as Doug works to regain his speech and the use of his right side.

Those who know Doug, know he is always the first one to put his hand up to help anyone in need. He has helped others build many a deck, built and installed kitchens, sheds, wardrobes, fences and cars. He is always willing to help in the Waiau Pa community, coach kids football, help at the kindy and school. Doug is always there to tell the best stories, have a kick around on the football pitch, cooks the best BBQ, and always makes sure you have a drink in your hand. Most of all, he is an incredible husband and father to his three young children.

Now is the time that Doug and Michelle need your help. Let's help ease the financial burden on Michelle and the kids by helping them keep on top of the mortgage, life bills and any health and rehab costs, so that they can focus on what's really important. We have all been supported by this wonderful family and desperately want to help to ease some of the pressure so they can focus on each other and their road to recovery.

Update on Doug's Recovery  13 March 2022

Just a quick message to thank you all for your incredible support on this page and in so many other ways. Michelle and Doug wanted to let you know that the funds raised on this page will be used to pay for private neuro physio and speech language therapy sessions. They have found a great private neuro physio specialist in Mt Eden who is providing Doug with a personally tailored program alongside what the public system offers. This enables Doug to make the greatest recovery possible and adjust to a new normal.

Doug has been home since the end of January and continues to make improvements each day. He is walking around the home independently, has some movement in his right arm and his language is improving all the time. However the road ahead is a long one. Thanks again for your incredible support, the Almond family has been overwhelmed by your generosity.
