Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Waikato
It started on Queens birthday long weekend, TJ had a sore leg which started with pins & needles in the side of his right knee, which then progressed to his whole leg and was so severe he couldn't walk on it at times.
Tuesday morning after the weekend and his leg was still the same, & needing a medical certificate for his new job that he was supposed to be starting, he went to the doctors.
The doctor sent him for blood tests, which later in the day he recieved a phone call to say he may have Leukemia and needed to go to Waikato hospital for more tests.
Wednesday 6th of June 2018 at Waikato hospital, TJ was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
A type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell).
He then went back home to Matamata to pack his bags and headed up to Auckland hospital with his girlfriend Riley that evening.
Riley, whom is also 30 weeks pregnant and due to have their baby on the 20th of August this year.
TJ has then started aggressive chemo on Friday the 8th of June, which will be a duration of 9 months & then following on of another 2 & a half years of treatment after that.
TJ & Riley will have to stay in Auckland for a month at a time as he goes through chemo.
At just 18 years old, TJ has a tough journey ahead of him. This page is created to help make his & Riley's lives that bit easier during this time of treatment & recovery & to keep TJ's soon to be young whanau close to him.
