Helping support the Todd Family while they care for Indie and their newborn son Hudson.
Timaru, Canterbury
On Tuesday 6th May, Indie Todd, a hugely loved two-year-old, was urgently flown to Starship Hospital after suffering a seizure and was found to have a large mass in her brain. What began as a hospital admission for vomiting quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare - doctors discovered a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
On arrival in Auckland, Indie underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain. Two days later, she faced an 11-hour operation to remove as much of the tumour as possible. Her medical team prepared her parents for the worst. They warned she may not survive the surgery, and that if she did, she would almost certainly suffer major deficits.
Amazingly, Indie pulled through. Against the odds, she has shown no major neurological deficits and continues to demonstrate strength and resilience every day. She remained at Starship for nearly four weeks to manage ongoing brain pressure.
Once the neurosurgery team were confident in her recovery, Indie and her family were transferred to Christchurch, where she is now undergoing intensive chemotherapy - through to the end of the year.
Just three days after arriving in Christchurch, the Todds' welcomed new baby Hudson three weeks early at Christchurch Women’s Hospital. His arrival has added another layer of complexity to an already challenging time.
Indie is the kind of kid who lights up every room she walks into. She’s smart, curious, and her cheeky grin usually gives her away before she even says a word.
Lynn River/High Street Stitch & Print is Shaun's employer and have set this page up to help the Todd family. If you're in a position to support his family, financially, emotionally or simply by sharing their story - every little bit makes a difference
Due to the length of treatment, the need to remain in Christchurch, and the difficulty of caring for both Indie and a newborn, Shaun is unable to return to work for the foreseeable future. This page has been set up to help the family stay afloat.
Thank you ❤️ 16 July 2025
We have been truly humbled by the donations and messages coming through this page. Your support means I can stay here in Christchurch with Haylee, Indie and Hudson without needing to rush back to work. That is a huge weight off our shoulders, especially with Hudson just arriving. Not knowing how long this journey will take or how long I will need to be off work, every bit of support helps keep our family where we need to be — together.
Tomorrow, Indie starts chemo cycle three of six. Cycle two was thankfully a little easier than the first, which meant we could spend more time together, staying at Ronald McDonald House and managing her chemo and checkups as an outpatient. She continues to amaze us with her strength and resilience. Hudson is thriving too, and watching Indie step into her role as big sister has been really special.
We might not always manage to reply, but we see every message and donation. Thank you for standing with us. From our whole family, we are forever grateful.
