Supporting Matt’s brain injury recovery

  • A huge Thank You!!!

      18 August 2021

We would like to thank every single person that has donated to this page.

We are completely blown away with the kindness and generosity from everyone.

When Amelia suggested starting this for us, Matt was in such a critical condition that it’s only now we are realising just how far this page went.

Your contributions have removed an enormous pressure for us for while Matt is unable to work. Matt not being able to work/drive at this stage essentially means our business can’t operate.

ACC will only base our funding on last years earnings, and we all know that was very average for tourism. So all your generosity has been a life saver for us. We can’t thank you enough!

We will be making a donation from this to the Westpac rescue helicopter, who flew Matt from the Bay of Islands to Auckland hospital. What an amazing service that is!

Matt still has double vision. He has another eye scan in Greenlane next week to see if the brain swelling is still putting pressure on behind his eyes and causing the blurry vision.

He also has a follow up CT scan early September to ensure that the fractures are healing properly and that there hasn’t been any further bleeds. This will be eliminating the risk of a potential stroke.

Matt has his rehab programs starting next week.

Belle still has no idea what happened, she just thought she had a cool holiday in Auckland with her Aunties and Nana. Thank goodness 🙏

We hope everyone takes care with these lockdowns.

We can’t thank you all enough, this has been truely a blessing.

We love you all. We hope to see you all soon, and Matt will be looking forward to having a coffee with all those living close to us very soon!

    So much love and appreciation

    Matt, Chloe & Belle

  • Positive Update

    Update for everyone.

    Positive news!

ACC has arranged for all the required rehab services (Physio, occupational therapists etc) up north closer to home which meant we were able to venture home earlier in the week.

Matt’s recovery has continued to amaze the recovery teams and given the nature of the injuries he has been a walking miracle! 🙏

All three of us are so glad to be home and looking forward to being able to recover at home and in the slow pace of the Bay of Islands.

Things will look quite different for us for many months, but we will no doubt see you all around at some stage.

Thanks again for all the love, support & prayers, Matt is blown away and the support has no doubt added to his determination to get well!

We love you all so much!

    Matt, Chloe & Belle

  • Matt’s progress

      29 July 2021

Hey guys, this is an update Chloe has given me to share with you about Matt’s progress:

An update I’m sure everyone is eager to hear.

    We’ve had progression with Matt.

    What we know so far

His mobility appears to be ok

His memory appears to be ok

    His awake time is increasing

The surgeons still consider him to be in a critical condition.

We are overwhelmed with the love and support.

We still have a very long road ahead.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts ♥️
