Helping educate children of 3rd world countries by mentoring their teachers.
Auckland
As an Australian trained teacher who is working in NZ, I consider myself extremely lucky to be working in a 1st world education system. Throughout my 20 years of teaching, I have encountered many students who have come from 3rd world countries and have not been offered the same opportunities as my students. This is now my time to give back.
In August 2019, I will be journeying to Rajpura, India for 4 weeks, to help Indian teachers become better teachers through a programme called LRTT. The purpose of the LRTT programme is to better the world through teacher education. Whilst there, I will work in the poorest of the poor schools, mentoring the teachers.
I am extremely lucky to have my school's support of this journey and they are covering a significant portion of the costs for my time there. Unfortunately, taking up this opportunity will still leave me out of pocket whilst I am absent from NZ.
As I am sure you have all heard, being a teacher in NZ is not exactly the best paid job in the world! I am more than willing to sacrifice my lifestyle in order to be part of the LRTT programme, however, many friends have indicated that they would like to help me out so I have put this Give A Little together for those people. With or without financial assistance, I will be taking part in this programme, however, any financial assistance is GREATLY appreciated :)
Any extra funds that I don't need to cover my costs will be used to provide teaching resources to schools in Rajpura, or donated to the LRTT cause.
Travel insurance and covering extra costs in NZ. e.g., It will cost approx. $500+ to place Chester in a cattery for a month. Any surplus funds will be used to provide teaching resources to schools in Rajpura, or donated to the LRTT cause.
