Tech community support for Dan Walker and his whānau

Last September Dan Walker and his wife Michelle found out their son Joshie has Ewings Sarcoma in his right scapula. Ewing (YOO-ing) sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that occurs in bones or in the soft tissue around the bones, unfortunately (and very cruelly) Ewing’s Sarcoma typically occurs in children. Since the diagnosis Joshie has been into theatre for bone marrow extraction and is in his sixth round of chemotherapy. His doctors have recommended removal of his shoulder to provide best chance of long term survival and will have a number of outpatient and in-patient chemotherapy treatments over the next 9 months - some of these treatments will be up to ten hours a day and will require Dan and Michelle to be at Joshie’s side and travel back and forward between Starship hospital. Along with the ongoing requirements of treatment Michelle and Dan are; caring for Josh full time, managing a household, working and looking after their other two children Tyler (8) and Maia (4).

For those of us who know Dan we know he is an incredibly talented colleague, he gives back to the community but most importantly we know how much Dan loves his family. Over the last few months we have seen Dan and family rally around their son/brother and we can see what a strong family unit they are – they are united in beating cancer in 2021! To help the Walker family focus on beating cancer we want to show our support by taking away any additional stress by providing some support via this page.
