Te Whare Koha Highbury (The House of Giving) sits under the Trust name of Te Roopu Oranga O Highbury Trust which was established in 2015.

We are a community hub, that sits in the heart of Highbury in Palmerston North.

We are a friendly non bias space that Highbury (and surrounding areas) residents can access the following support:

Free Food

Free transport to appointments

Free clothing and household goods

Advocacy and connecting people to services

Educational Training

Kaumatua Support Programme

Health Peer Support Group

Cancer support service

Smoking cessation

Housing advice

Youth support

General whanau support in all matters.

The Highbury community is located in a suburb of Palmerston North with a resident population of 3,240. The 2013 Deprivation ratings show Highbury sits alongside other communities in New Zealand with the highest deprivation rating of 10. Highbury is surrounded by other suburbs with deprivation ratings ranging from 7 to 9. These suburbs and their populations include Awapuni North (3,405), Cloverlea (2,042), Takaro (5,232), Westbrook (4,203), Palmerston North Central (3,099) and West End (4,638). The hub would not only support the needs of Highbury but could potentially reach a high needs population of 25,859. Many are linked into surrounding areas through whanau links, friends and neighbours.

A predominant part of our service is supporting whanau with basic everyday necessities. This includes food and clothing.

Unfortunatley our garage which holds and stores all of our donated goods needs major repairs to make it a safe and pleasant place for our whanau to come and collect what they need from us and also for our volunteers to work in.

We believe in making our community stronger by offering to give people useful education in gardening, cooking, building, administraion, leadership skills and building social enterprises for themselves, their whanau and their community.
