Thames-Coromandel Council Taken to Court Over Climate Declaration Decision

Hauraki Coromandel Climate Action has taken the Thames Coromandel Council to the High Court over its decision to NOT sign the climate change declaration. The declaration commits those signing to local climate action plans and emission reductions. 90% of other mayors and chairs have signed the declaration.
Our ground-breaking legal case says the council failed to properly consider the science of human-caused climate change, its own policies, and the relevant law. Our group is seeking to have the decision declared unlawful and an order that it be quashed. Local councils and other agencies must be held to account for failing to act on the climate crisis.
