The Ferrymead Railway Railcar Shed
We are raising funds towards our planned Railcar Shed to house our Three 80yr old Vulcan Railcars in a protected purpose built environment.

Our Vulcan Railcars (R.M. 51, R.M. 56 & R.M. 57) have hit 80 years of age being built in 1939!
For the last few years we have been planning and progressing with the Design and Development for a Purpose Built Railcar Shed. This will house our Vulcans and a few of our Diesel Shunters so they are better protected, preserved and can be maintained or restored in their own on-site facility.
Once complete this will mean we are able to house all Three Vulcan Railcars we own undercover for the first time at Ferrymead Railway, along with freeing up space in the Carriage Shed where R.M. 51 & R.M. 56 currently live enabling "The Great Re-Shuffle" and meaning all our Wooden Rolling Stock will be undercover too.
We have been advised to expect the project to cost around $200,000 and need your help to make it happen as our Tickets from Railway Operations only stretch so far beyond our normal society expenses.
About us
Based at Ferrymead Heritage Park, the Canterbury Railway Society restores and operates a collection of steam, diesel and electric locomotives, rolling stock, signalling equipment and buildings.
Use of funds
Funds raised will go towards the Railcar Sheds design, development and construction costs. If funds needed are exceeded these will be used towards the fitout of the Shed along with maintenance and restoration of the Railcars.

Our Resource Consent Application is nearly complete and we hope to have it submitted soon!
We have been working with a fantastic Specialist Resource Consent Planner who has done a massive amount of work resolving any potential issues with the RMA and our Land. We are immensely grateful for this assistance!
As we have reached 10 months since the Railcar Shed Project was launched on Give-A-Little we have raised 1/6 of the funds hoped for.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all that donated towards this cause!
Whilst we didn't reach the fundraising goal, rest assured that these funds are dedicated towards the Railcar Shed Project and will be used towards any further consenting fees along with any other project costs that come up.
We have decided to close the Fundraiser on Give-A-Little and start looking at other ways of raising funds towards this necessary project.
