Nationwide
The Friends of Te Urewera National Park Inc. were originally established in 1964 "To encourage interest and assist the Urewera National Park administrators in any measures directed towards the preservation of the Park and the development of amenities for making the delights of the Park more readily accessible to the public."
Post the enactment of The Te Urewera Act in 2014 the name of the association was changed to The Friends of Te Urewera and the purpose of the association redefined as:

(c) To assist Te Urewera Board in the development of amenities for making the delights of Te Urewera more readily accessible to the public in general and to those groups whose special interests would draw them to Te Urewera.
(d) Do anything necessary or helpful to the above purposes.
Pecuniary gain is not a purpose of the Association
To assist in any measures directed towards the preservation of Te Urewera and assist in the development of amenities for making the delights of Te Urewera more readily accessible to the public in general.
