The Nelson ARK educates young people who are losing their way in life and gives them each an unwanted dog to train.
Nelson / Tasman
The Nelson ARK rescues unwanted dogs and pairs them with young people who are losing their way. This combination has proven to be truly transformative for the lives of the young people and rescued dogs and has positive repercussions throughout the entire community.
The ARK understands and applies the the healing power of contact with animals to educate and rehabilitate youth at risk with the A PART programme.
The Nelson ARK also runs a Healing Species programme in schools taking rescued dogs into the classroom for a 10 week course Healing Species helps young people with emotional learning and life lessons to help produce our next generation of caring and supportive young people. We need support to help run these courses in schools and receive all our funding through donations.
We provide programs for young people exposed to traumatic or adverse childhood experiences. We break the cycle by helping them developing safe, stable and nurturing relationships that heal the child before they become an adult.
The Nelson ARK heals hearts and changes lives through the power of human-animal relationships. It has proven to be transformative for the lives of both young people and rescued dogs and has proven to have repercussions throughout the entire community.
