Top Surgery for my Dearest Brother, Carlos <3

Kia ora! I’m Ruby and I am setting up this give a little page on behalf of my favourite person in the world, my brother Carlos!

Carlos started his transition about 5 years ago, and it has been an absolute blessing and inspiration to see him find comfort in himself and grow into the incredible young man he is today.

The past five years for him have been filled with doctors, psychology, therapy appointments to which Carlos has mostly funded all himself and has made no fuss.

Unfortunately, where we find ourselves today is Carlos has been denied life changing top surgery through the public health system - a decision based on the under-resourcing of plastic surgeons in NZ and having to prioritise those with a greater surgical need. Although we understand this decision and fully support Te Whatu Ora (NZ Health) this had heavily impacted Carlos and set him back on his journey.

The total cost of this surgery $15,675 NZD (£6,983)

Cost breakdown:

Consult - $275

Surgeons fee - $9000

Anaesthetist - $3200

Hospital fees -$3200

The recovery period is 6-8 weeks.

Carlos has the opportunity to live authentically, and receive a surgery that will enhance his life immeasurably. To all of us who have had the privilege of being born in our “correct” bodies, I implore you to reach within your hearts and empathise.
