Our dad is entering end of life care with terminal brain cancer Four of his children (and their kids) would like to travel to see him again
Canterbury
[update 31/5/20] We are so grateful for your kind donations to help us travel to see dad over the next few months. We haven't set a goal; and are grateful for anything to help up to 12 close family (dads children and their kids) travel. Thank you so much. This is really important to my younger half sister too, who lost her mum in the CTV building quake of 2011 and she needs our support more than ever.
On May 16 last year, our loving dad (to eight children) had a fall, was scanned and diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. His name is Russell McCarthy. Russell worked, nursing at St John of God Hospital for over half his life. Caring for many strangers over decades. Dad has had another year with us, which we are very grateful for. However now he is entering his toughest and final journey. He is now losing his sight, hearing and mobility and dad says maybe he has just a few months. Four of his children live in Christchurch where dad is, two live in Auckland, one in Blenheim and one in Australia. We are hard working ordinary kiwis working in the fields of Teaching, Social Care, Retail and Emergency Services. We all earn an ordinary wage and (especially post covid) live week to week. Our reason for this page is to raise funds to enable dads children to travel to Christchurch to spend time with him in June and July and hopefully beyond. We have no savings and costs of travel right now is beyond our reach. We have filmed dads original journey which can been seen on our YouTube channel https://youtu.be/fONXttRUYJI
We would love to see dad and for him to see us before it is too late. Your generous funds will help our family travel through this unknown and inexperienced journey. An update will be made for the you tube channel for those of you interested.
Funds will be used for air and or road travel only to see our dad once or hopefully twice more.
Thank you so very much Hannah. Our family is so grateful. x
