Supporting families impacted by the Christchurch mosque attacks

Canterbury

Hey friends! Soon I'm embarking on the biggest physical, and perhaps craziest, challenge of my life, when I'll be attempting to climb Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro. This combines my passions for travel, fitness, adventure and new cultures. And if luck is on my side, I'll be spending a significant birthday on the summit! Nothing beats pushing yourself to the limit, but this will be very much out of my comfort zone.

Whilst this challenge is a very personal one, I want to use this amazing opportunity to help raise money for the families of Christchurch caught up in the March 2019 terrorist attacks.

As a city, the people have endured so much. I recently moved there to be closer to family after 12 years in the UK. During this time I was lucky to travel to a lot of the countries with nationalities impacted and made many friends. It broke my heart that this could happen in our back yard - or indeed anywhere. I'd therefore like to dedicate my adventure to the cause.

If you could spare a moment to donate, I'd be very humbled by your support. I'll be compiling all your messages to take with me to the top. And in return, I'd love to share with you tales of my journey.

Aroha nui xx

Kilimanjaro is Africa's tallest, and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. At 5,895m, the altitude is set to be my biggest challenge, which is why I'm hoping to raise $589 for my efforts. I'll be trekking the Machame route for 7-10 hours every day for 6 days and attempting the summit at midnight on July 26 - where oxygen levels are just 50%. I'm praying that my body and previous injuries will be able to withstand the numerous microclimates, and temperature extremes from 35°C plus, to 35 below. But really these conditions are a small thing to endure for a lifetime experience, and the chance to help others.
