'Trunkload' - A Massey University student, honors film project. A clown themed, comedy, silent film.
Mount Cook, Wellington
Kia Ora! My name is Kate Saunders, I am a screen arts student. I am currently studying my fourth honors year at Massey University Wellington. Majoring in film production.
For my final year, I'm leading a short film project called, 'Trunkload'. Which is about a gloomy and jaded used car salesman. Who under threat of losing his job by his boss, must make his next sale a success. But gets put at his wits end, when struggling to find a suitable vehicle for his most difficult client yet; A group of lively and impulsive circus clowns. Searching to buy the perfect clown car.
Genre and Themes: A physical comedy. Vintage-style silent film. Inspired by Charlie Chaplin films. Using exclusively black, white, grey, and red color themes.
Project research question: ‘By intentionally limiting key audio and visual storytelling aspects, inspired by the silent film era. How can restrictions potentially influence untapped creativity within cast and crew?’
I intend to create a 10-12 minute short film, that curates a fun and explorative environment for anyone in collaboration. Encouraging talented individuals involved in the production process to fully manifest their limitless creative potential, within the paradoxically limited technical boundaries.
All the funding that will be raised, will go towards paying actors, supplying catering, and art department costs. Including costuming, makeup, hiring vehicles, and props.
If we don't meet our goal, we will focus on paying cast and catering.
