Help the Tyler Family with their fight for Dani

6 Years ago our beautiful Dani Girl was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumour on her right kidney. She underwent surgery to remove the kidney and after extensive chemotherapy she appeared to be cured and got to enjoy a few years of normality.

12th October 2016 Dani's world was turned upside down yet again, this time her left kidney was showing a Wilms Tumour. She has been on extensive Chemotherapy ever since to try and shrink the tumour to a point where it could be removed, however the Tumour is sitting right in the middle of the Renal function, making it very difficult to remove.

Sunday 12th February 2017, The Tyler’s made their way back up to Starship Hospital for more scans and tests to determine the next step only to be told the decision would have to be made once Dani was in theatre.

Wednesday 15th February 2017, Dani underwent surgery to remove the tumour, unfortunately the Drs couldn’t save her kidney and the decision was made to remove her remaining kidney.

And so the new fight begins…..

Dani is going to be staying up at Starship Hospital for the next few months as she commences Hemodialysis for the first 2 weeks, then they will change her over to Peritoneal Dialysis which will be every night for 8 – 10 hours for the next 2 years.

In order for Dani to be considered for a Kidney Transplant, she needs to be cancer free for 2 years, then it will be a whole new fight.

On top of all this Dani is still going to need ongoing Chemotherapy to rid her body of any remaining cancer cells.

It is going to be a long battle ahead for them emotionally and financially, and they are going to need all the love and support to help them along the way.

So we are asking once again for your help in this fight for Dani, Kylie, Dayne and Tegan.

Hemodialysis is a process that uses a man-made membrane (dialyzer) to: Remove wastes, such as urea, from the blood. Restore the proper balance of electrolytes in the blood. Eliminate extra fluid from the body.

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a treatment that uses the lining of your abdomen (belly area), called your peritoneum, and a cleaning solution called dialysate to clean your blood. Dialysate absorbs waste and fluid from your blood, using your peritoneum as a filter.

Use of funds

All funds raised will go towards helping the Tyler Family with the financial impacts of weekly Chemotherapy between Starship Hospital and Waikato Hospital, Daily Dialysis over the next 2 years while she is waits to become eligible for a Kidney transplant.

This will allow Kylie and Dayne the ability to devote all their time to Dani's recovery.

Small Steps in the right direction 26 May 2017

After a long and hard 8 months, Dani went back to school for the first time this week, just 2 hours for a couple of days a week when she is feeling up to it, but its a start. Definitely one very happy girl!

Dani had a lot of help & support from Tegan, Max, her good friends & also her awesome teacher who made it that much easier for us. Dani showed so much courage & determination, and we are so proud of her.

Dani celebrated her 8th Birthday at Splashy with family and friends this month, a huge milestone for our family and seeing the brightness in Dani's Smile melts our hearts.

Although Dani is making great progress, there is still all the hard work behind the scenes that Dayne and I are dealing with everyday, medical appointments, endless medication, sterilising of absolutely everything, 10 hours of dialysis everyniight, sleepless nights, then we wake to do it all over again.

But totally worth it to finally see the smile on Dani's face again.

Still a way to go before we get to transplant stage but each day we are taking small baby steps in the right direction.
