Deborah is a 36 year old mum of 3. Deborah has recently been diagnosed with severe carpel tunnel syndrome in both hands and wrists with possible nerve damage (tests need to be completed which has an extensive waiting list.) Deborah is always sore and swollen and now takes morphine when at home to help manage her pain. Some days she loses all feeling and experiences shooting pain and heaviness in her arms then loses general function. Opening a door or doing up buttons on her clothing is impossible.
Deborah is working 4 days a week as a florist and in a café but due to her condition, everyday is agony. She did recently stop work in the café because it was too much for her to bear. Deborah is also studying a certificate in Mental Health Services and Addiction. To help Deborah gain experience in the mental health industry she also works on a casual basis as a Mental Health Support Worker. She loves the role and knows this is the career she wants to continue to pursue because she is making a real difference in peoples lives.
Everyday is a struggle, recently she had to move house with little notice and due to the housing shortage in the Wanganui region she now drives 50 km to work and school everyday. Even this evening she had her youngest daughter help cook tea because of the pain, her daughter is only 9.
If Deborah can't get the tests done soon and immediate surgery for her hands and wrists she will have a poor quality of life. Deborah is raising 3 kids and eventually will not being able to work because her condition worsens everyday.
The beneficiary is my younger sister. We are very close and I want to try everything to help her.
The funds will be used to pay for medical tests and surgery.
