I am completing Dry July to fundraise for NGO's providing relief in Yemen.
Wellington
This year I will be completing Dry July. Yes seriously. For any non-Kiwi's, this means I will give up alcohol for the month of July in order to fundraise for charity. With so much need around the globe, I have decided to fundraise for NGO's that are providing relief in Yemen. I also hope that this will help raise some much needed awareness for the worsening situation in Yemen.
Yemen has been in conflict since 2015. The civil war has led to the worst humanitarian crisis on earth. As well as conflict and a broken economy, the people of Yemen are experiencing famine, malnutrition, and disease.
- 24 million people in Yemen (80% of their population) need aid.
- The unemployment rate is 65%.
- It is estimated that a child dies in Yemen every 10 minutes.
- Approximately 16 million people in Yemen lack access to clean water.
Donations will be split evenly amongst Project Hope, Pure Hands, and UMRelief. These charities provide emergency medical care and medicine, food and clean water, and wider programs related to shelter, child protection, medical infrastructure, and education. All of these charities spend between 92 and 94 cents of every dollar donated directly on these programs.
Below are the links to each charities web page on Yemen.
