Welcome Afghan evacuees to New Zealand

Please help us to give a warm welcome to the Afghan evacuees who have just arrived in New Zealand. Most of the evacuees have landed with very few possessions and have been through such a traumatic time during their exit from Afghanistan. Some risked their own and their families' lives by helping the New Zealand defence force during the Afghanistan War.

Your donation will help Uniting Canterbury Women and its partner organisations to put together special 'Welcome Packs' (individual packs for men, women and children) which will include some of the following:

* Familiar products from home (Afghan teas and spices)

* Silk scarves and cotton masks (from Christchurch social enterprise Krama & Co),

* Hats, cups, a prayer mat, TradeAid chocolate

* Toys, balls and a book for the children

* Art supplies from Bunnings

* Beautiful New Zealand made products, including Linden Leaves soaps and hand creams, Breasby honey, and colouring books and colour pencils from Colour Our Story. These fabulous colouring books are filled with unique drawings created by children, for children, all across the world.

These are just some of the special items your donations will go towards, as our list is growing by the day!

We hope these Welcome Packs, filled with lots of special things, will help to brighten the evacuees' day, give them something to treasure, and show them they are being thought of, and cared about by New Zealanders.

We are very grateful to the suppliers of goods for the Welcome Packs, most of whom are offering their products at wholesale prices or less.

Uniting Canterbury Women was founded after the terror attack in Christchurch in March 2019. Our kaupapa is to celebrate diversity, break down barriers, and provide a safe space where women of all ethnicities, cultures and religions can connect, kōrero', collaborate, enjoy events, workshops and activities together, learn from each other, and work together to make a difference in our communities.
