WELLINGTON HOCKEY PARTICIPATION FUND TO SUPPORT OTHER HOCKEY PLAYERS
The Wellington Hockey Participation Fund is about hockey players directly supporting other hockey players. This includes current players, anyone who has been thinking of returning to Hockey or even giving it a go for the first time.
A recent survey of WHA members indicated that of people who say they may not play this year, 40% of the time it's because of their inability to pay subs and fees.
This did not sit well with the staff and Board of Wellington Hockey. They made the decision to do something to help the community, and ensure cost was not a barrier to playing hockey this season.
The fund will be set up with seed funding from every individual member of the Wellington Hockey Association Board, as well as help from sponsors and other supporters of hockey in Wellington.
100% of the funds raised will be distributed to those who are having trouble paying their subs and fees. Your donation will help an existing hockey player to play this year or someone new to the sport to give it a go for the first time!
Sally Morrison, Chair of the Wellington Hockey Board says “This is a unique and very tough time for everyone and many of us are just managing to make ends meet. At the Wellington Hockey Association, we strongly believe that participation in sport, while not a panacea, is a key part of your happiness, health and wellbeing. It is important that we do whatever we can to remove any barriers to participation and we believe this fund will go a long way towards this goal”
This Give-a-little page has been set up so the Hockey Community can donate whatever they can afford to help increase the amount available to support other players. Anyone who is struggling to pay their fees will be able to apply to the fund for assistance.
