Wellington Pride Festival's goal is to provide the rainbow community with big shiny LGBTTQIA* events that prizes visibility and positivity.
Wellington
Wellington Pride Festival's goal is to offer the rainbow community an event that prizes visibility and positivity. Our objectives are to provide an event that celebrates the contribution the rainbow community makes to Wellington and the nation; where our rainbow cultures can be authentically claimed and shared; to raise awareness of homophobia, HIV/AIDS, and safe-sex practices; and to engage with young people to show them that being LGBTI* is ok.
Our event has a long and colourful history. Starting from humble beginnings over 25 years ago in the Newtown School grounds to now being the second biggest LGBTI* event in New Zealand. The two week festival will include a fabulous range of community events. These include our flagship events being the highly popular Youth Ball and our much loved Out in the Park - boasting celebrities, activists, local and national politicians and other dignitaries. Out in the Park will feature more than 60 stalls providing information, food, trinkets and quality goods, all set to the backdrop of some extremely talented performers from the rainbow community and afar.
We missed out on the critical round of Wellington City Council funding this year due to the board being formed late. So, we really need your help to raise these funds! Funds will help cover the promotional costs of the entire festival and Out in the Park.
