Cara and John are competing in the 2018 Whitehorse Challenge, biking, running and raising funds to support great charities!
Canterbury
The Whitehorse Challenge is a charity event run by the Waimate Rotary Club as part of the Veterinary Centre Whitehorse Big Easy event. One member of each team completes a 26km mountainbike, and the other an 18km run in the stunning hills around Waimate. The added challenge for the teams is to raise $500, with funds this year being dispersed to local and regional charities.
Cara and John are two of the newest members of the Waimate Rotary Club and starting things off with a bang, competing as our official team in the Challenge. They describe themselves as "plodders", but it does appear they've "plodded" in quite a few awesome events. Rumour has it that John broke from the plodder mode when they competed in the New York Marathon, responding to the crowds and bands with a sprint-like first half (followed by a second half of pain and misery). Cara tends to follow more of a structured race day plan - for the Spring Challenge an unnamed source has let slip that a laminator may have been packed in case of an urgent need for waterproofing.
The Waimate Rotary Club runs the Whitehorse Challenge, with teams raising funds for local and regional charities, while testing their athletic skills!
Funds this year being dispersed to; Waimate Rotary Club, Whitehorse MTB Club, Land Search & Rescue NZ, KiwiSport, Centrecare Counselling Waimate, and the Waimate School of Music.
