Support Alice and Rebecca as they strive to take home the Teams Challenge Trophy - all in the name of raising funds for local charities!
Canterbury
After talking about it for the past three years, Alice Hore and Rebecca Ryan have finally committed to entering the teams challenge as part of the Whitehorse Big Easy (and our first Oamaru entry for 2019).
Alice is taking on the 27km bike leg and has spent a lot of her summer training at Herbert Forest and the Oamaru Reservoir. Having barely been on a mountain bike for the past five, or more, years, this is her first ever mountain bike race. The only event Alice says she has ever previously trained for was Beervana!
Rebecca is tackling the 18km run. A Type 1 diabetic, Rebecca leads a running group called Type One Run, in New Zealand, part of an international movement dedicated to building support, community, and awareness for those affected by Type 1 diabetes through running. She’s also been keeping fit over summer playing tennis for North Otago.
Alice and Rebecca are hoping to go big on fundraising in the lead up to the event, especially when every dollar raised over $250 gives a one second advantage.
The Waimate Rotary Club runs the Whitehorse Challenge, with teams raising funds for local and regional charities, while testing their athletic skills!
All funds raised go towards these great local charities; Waimate Food Bank, Parenting Hub, Sport Waimate, Centrecare Counselling, Waimate Rotary Club, and the Whitehorse Mountain Bikers Club.
