Wild Aro: trapping predators and bringing back the birds!

$190 donated

Help us protect and increase Aro Valley's native birds by trapping rats and other predators in community backyards and surrounding bush.

Wellington

Wild Aro is a community-based, volunteer effort to help restore native birds to Wellington's Aro Valley. We're part of the national Predator Free New Zealand initiative.

Our main work is to trap rats and other predators in backyards and in the bush, and we've already achieved considerabile success. We also clear rubbish and weeds from our part of the Wellington green belt and plant native trees and bushes.

Trapping in Aro Valley will help provide another area for tieke, kaka, tui and other native birds to nest in as they fly down from Zealandia. It'll also stop the reinvasion by rats of neighbouring areas where they have been removed or reduced.

Use of funds

We need money to buy things like traps (A24s) for the deeper bush, communications and promotional material like leaflets, t-shirt printing and events, and stakes and trunk protectors for native seedlings.
