Due to the Covid 19 lockdown, we are starting a virtual appeal for donations which we depend on to help whanau who need it most.

Internationally, we have seen Family violence is increasing 30-60%. While it is hard to estimate exactly how much of an increase we see as we move through levels, we do know that New Zealand has the highest rates of Family Violence in the developed world and we are already seeing increases in certain areas of Aotearoa.
During the Covid 19 lockdown Womens Refuge has had to adapt to the new requirements, which means that we need provide assistance in new ways.
* Accommodation - On a typical night we provide 167 women and children with safe and secure accommodation. In order to keep women safe from not only an abuser, but the virus, we are using alternate accommodation to protect bubbles.
* Food – We provide food in safe houses but rely on the donations from the public – given the lockdown those donations are almost non-existent. We are purchasing food as well as personal care items for the refuges and also for those staying in the motel accommodation
* Petrol – Advocates are driving a lot more in order to deliver these items and keep in contact with clients
* Taxis – We will also utilise taxis as needed
New Zealand’s largest nation-wide organisation that supports and helps women and children experiencing family violence. Our vision is for all women and children in Aotearoa to live free from domestic and family violence.
