We're running & walking to raise funds to bring clean water and health training to the people of South Sudan
Auckland
Kia Ora,
My name is Jono, I'm a Kiwi doctor helping run a community health program in South Sudan with In Deed And Truth Ministries (IDAT).
South Sudan is the world's youngest country, and has some of the worst health statistics in the world. During our 8.5 years living in South Sudan, our hearts were broken as we witnessed massive suffering of South Sudanese children from preventable illnesses. To combat this, we helped start the IDAT Community Health and Evangelism Programme, which has so far trained over 9000 community health promoters in 140 villages. These volunteers are providing health education to a whole generation of South Sudanese, including topics such as hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, antenatal & postnatal care, prevention of malaria and much more.
Alongside the health training, we empower communities in South Sudan to achieve their development goals through drilling water wells, and helping establish village schools, medical outreaches, community farms and churches.
With your help this year we would like to raise $30,000 to:
1. Help drill 3 more water wells
2. Expand our health training into 30 new villages
3. Train another 1000 Community Health Promoters
To help make this happen our team of dedicated Kiwis will be walking/running 1600km (the length of NZ) on November 14th, with each person walking or running as many 2km loops of Warkworth Showgrounds as they can to add to our tally board!
