Nelson / Tasman
Child/youth mentoring organisation Big Brothers Big Sisters will be the main beneficiary of the popular City2Saxton event in 2019.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nelson-Tasman has been serving the children of the Nelson-Tasman community for 20 years. It was one of the founding regions in New Zealand and, with nearly 200 matches, is the largest mentoring programme in the country. Big Brothers Big Sisters is an international organisation which has been operating for over 100 years in 13 countries and serves more than 280,000 children in need.
The vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters is that every child who needs a mentor, has a mentor. Funds raised will be spent on recruiting, training, supervising and supporting volunteer mentors so we can reduce our waiting list of 37 children needing a mentor. This event is a fantastic way for mentors and mentees to join together and participate in the event, and also to raise funds and awareness about our programme.
Sport Tasman, owner of the City2Saxton, aim to create a vibrant society by way of getting 'more people, more active, more often'. Providing for youth is especially important and by choosing BBBS as the primary beneficiary Sport Tasman can not only provide the organisation’s kids and mentors with entry for the event, but can also help to raise valuable funds for their ongoing support.
Sport Tasman and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nelson-Tasman are partnering for the 2019 City2Saxton. We aim to raise awareness of those children in need of support through a difficult time in our community and hope to get them outside and active - and working towards a healthy and happy lifestyle.
