660km in 24 hours to smash COVID!

6 mates running 660km in 24 hours - raising money for those affected by COVID-19

Bay of Plenty

6 lads, 660km and just 24 hours to run it! - Proudly sponsored by Harcourts Team Gardiner, Grace & Graze and EMAC electrical

In 2020 four mates pushed ourselves to the limit to run 440km in just 23 hours, raising over $6,000 for Waipuna Hospice.

Obviously forgetting the pain of last year, the boys are back in 2021 with a more ambitious goal in mind - to run 660km between 6 of us in under 24 hours. In doing so we aim to raise $10,000 for KidsCan COVID 19 appeal, to help children and families affected by COVID and the lockdowns with staple supplies like good food and clothing.

Here’s the low down:

- We will be running as many laps of the Rotorua Blue Lake (Lake Tikitapu) as we can in a 24 hour period. This is a 5.5km loop of mostly off road trails, with a lovely set of stairs to tackle each lap. This will be run as part of The Blue Lake 24 hour Challenge on the 25th - 26th September 2021.

- Each runner will be running their own individual effort, so although there are 6 of us this isn’t a team event. Each man must attempt to run as many laps as he can over the 24 hours.

- If the event is canceled due to lockdowns, we will run our own event as soon as we are able to.

COVID has affected every one of us in one way or another. For a lot of people this has been a massive struggle financially, and KidsCan is running an awesome campaign to help those that need it. Every dollar counts, let’s band together and see how much we can raise to help!

Smashed it!  29 September 2021

The lads have put in a solid effort over the last week to smash out their kilometres! Tux, Ollie and Levi were all stuck in Auckland so did their own version of a 100km run, running 5km (ish) loops around where they live. All 3 cracked the 100km in under 24 hours, plus an extra 60km from Kael as support biker.

Jamie and Regan were the only 2 not in lockdown so they hit the blue lake challenge and smashed out their 100km around the lake. It definitely wasn’t easy, with a few hiccups along the way but they managed to get it done still smiling! (barely).

All in all the boys did an amazing job, with Regan, Levi and Ollie all cracking the 100km club for the first time. Awesome to have such good support from all of you who donated and sent us messages to help us through. With all the uncertainty and financial difficulties people are facing right now it’s amazing to be able to help out such a good cause like KidsCan. You guys are legends - standby for next years!
