Unfortunately the Dunedin Marathon which was meant to be on 7th November was canceled again due to COVID-19

I decided to still run the distance and completed this on 6th November. I did a run around Mosgiel which was 3 loops between the streets on Gladstone Road. Puddle Alley, Factory / Bush Road and Riccarton Road.

Time taken was 5hrs and 52 minutes which I am thrilled with.

By training to get to the full distance I have found that I am really comfortable at 1/2 Marathon. During this journey I have enjoyed some amazing high altitude marathon training (AKA Skiing) and ran in some beautiful parts of our stunning country. Queenstown, Catlins and Te Anau as well as pounding the streets around Mosgiel.

Thanks to my family who have put up with my moans and groans of feeling sore and also the amount of time I’ve been away from them while training.

Thanks to my brother in law who kept me honest when I said that running a marathon must be like running 10kms but a little further. He held me to this and back at you…. I’ve done it……

  • Marathon update

      29 October 2021

Covid 19 is continuing to have a hold around New Zealand and unfortunately Emersons Dunedin Marathon has cancelled until 11 September 2022.

I’m not going to have the enthusiasm to maintain fitness for another 11 months so I’m running my marathon on 6th November around Mosgiel.

Come and find me around wingatui, Gladstone road, silverstream, factory road, bush road and riccarton road.

I’ve recently enjoyed a few 1/2 marathons around Queenstown and curio bay in the Caitlin’s. Averaging around 2hrs 32mins for a 1/2.

Looking forward to posting my Strava map and record on here next weekend to confirm my achievement.

  • 35km completed under lockdown level 4

The scenery wasn’t quite the same as I had planned to run from the Molars on Portsmouth Drive, Dunedin to Portobello and back.

So instead I ran around Mosgiel and ran the 35km in less than 5 hours….. according to Strava, my moving time was 4hrs 51 mins…..

Thrilled with my achievement as this is definitely the furthest I have ever attempted to run in one go…..

Felt great at 21km mark and although there aren’t any hills in Mosgiel I went down hill from around 30km….

Here’s hoping the Dunedin Marathon can still go ahead

  • 2/3 Marathon done

      1 August 2021

Completed a 2/3 marathon this morning in 3 hrs 46 mins

Felt great after 21kms and then hit the wall at 25kms…. Had to Jalk the next 3kms…..

Only 6 weeks until the Dunedin Marathon and in 3 weeks time I’ll be mostly running a 35km run…. Hoping for less Jalking……

  • 10 Weeks to go

      4 July 2021

The Dunedin Marathon will soon be here. Can’t believe it is less than 10 weeks away.

I am planning on a test run approx 35km on Saturday 21 August. Leaving the Molars on Portsmouth Drive running to Portobello and back to the Molars.

If you have time to come along to see me practise, feel free.... bring some jelly beans to feed my energy levels.....
